How to protect a PDF with a password

Encrypt PDF applies standard PDF password protection on your device. We never receive the file or the password.
Send the password on a different channel from the file — a call or chat, not the same email thread.
Step by step
- 1If the file is already encrypted, unlock it first with the current password.
- 2Open Encrypt PDF and load the unlocked document.
- 3Choose a password you can share separately with the recipient.
- 4Encrypt and download. Test-open the download with the password before sending.
After encryption
Most other tools cannot process an encrypted PDF until it is unlocked. Plan the order: redact and clean first, encrypt last.
Limits
- You must remember or safely store the password — there is no recovery here.
- Certificate-based protection is not supported.
- Encryption does not replace redaction of content you should not share.
