How to meet scholarship PDF size limits

By SumitPublished 16 Oct 20261 min readStudents

Short answer

Read each field’s limit. Make one PDF per document, then open the matching size page — usually 100 KB or 200 KB. Check the preview before you submit.

Scholarship portals often reject supporting PDFs over 100 KB or 200 KB. Phone photos of certificates blow past those caps immediately.

Compress locally with a target just under the limit, keep originals, and never merge unrelated documents into one oversized file unless the form asks for it.

Step by step

  1. 1

Note the size and file type next to each upload field.

  2. 2

Scan or export one document per field — crop to the page edges.

  3. 3

Compress with 100 KB, 150 KB, or 200 KB as required.

  4. 4

Open the download, check stamps and small print, then upload.

One document per field

Merging everything into one PDF usually fails size checks. Keep income certificates, mark sheets, and ID proofs separate unless the checklist says otherwise.

Photo fields are not PDFs

Passport photos and signatures are often JPG with pixel rules. Do not force those into a PDF unless the form says PDF.

Limits worth knowing

  • Portals may reject files for filename or password protection, not only size.
  • Ultra-small caps (20–50 KB) may need a cleaner rescan, not only compression.

Frequently asked questions

  • What size should my scholarship PDF be?
Whatever the field says. Start with [compress to 100 KB](/compress-pdf/100kb) or [200 KB](/compress-pdf/200kb) — the common caps.
  • Does compression upload my documents?
No. Size pages run in your browser.
