How to combine a resume and cover letter into one PDF
Published 26 Sept 2026 · Sumit · Job seekers
Some applications want one file. Merge puts the cover letter and resume in the order you choose — usually letter first, then resume.
Both files should be unlocked. After merging, compress if the portal has a size cap.
Step by step
- 1Export cover letter and resume as PDFs (from Word if needed).
- 2Open Merge PDF, add the letter first, then the resume (or your preferred order).
- 3Drag to confirm order, merge, download.
- 4Open the download: page 1 should be the letter if that was your intent.
Naming the file
Use a clear filename such as YourName_Role_Application.pdf. Avoid spaces-only names or “final_final_v3.pdf.”
Limits
- Follow the employer’s instructions if they want separate uploads.
- Unlock any password-protected exports first.
- Merging does not fix resume formatting inside Word.
