Many job portals cap uploads at 1 MB or 2 MB. A resume with a photo or heavy design can miss that number even when the text is short.
Try Keep text first. If you still need room, use Target size set to 1 MB (or 950 KB). Check that contact details stay readable at 100% zoom.
Step by step
- 1Note your current file size in Finder, Explorer, or the download bar.

What usually makes a resume large
Embedded photos, full-page background graphics, and high-DPI exports from design tools. A simple text resume rarely needs aggressive raster compression.
If Target size still cannot reach 1 MB without unreadable text, remove the photo or export a cleaner layout from Word, then convert again.

Before: note the original size. After Keep text: note the new size. After Target size: note the final size and whether any section looked soft. Keeping those three numbers makes the next application faster.
