How to remove personal metadata from a resume PDF
Published 26 Sept 2026 · Sumit · Job seekers
Exports sometimes embed an author name or machine username in PDF properties. Recruiters do not need that. Remove metadata clears common Info fields before you apply.
This does not remove personal data printed on the page (address, phone). Edit those in Word if they should not appear.
Step by step
- 1Open Remove metadata and load your resume PDF.
- 2Strip and download.
- 3Check document properties in a viewer — author/title should be empty or generic.
- 4Optional: Privacy scanner for emails/phones on the page if you are preparing a redacted sample.
Page content vs properties
Metadata cleanup is about file properties. Your name and contact block on the resume are page content — change those in the source document if needed.
Limits
- Does not redact text on the page.
- Does not guarantee every exotic metadata stream is gone.
- Verify properties on the file you actually upload.
